A downloadable disgrace to gamedev for Windows

Disclaimer

The frame rate of this game is limited to 45 FPS. It's not that the game can't perform well, it's that the player and the enemy's movements speeds are dependent on the frame rate. For example, the enemy might move slower at a lower FPS, but faster at a higher FPS. I already tried to fix this by multiplying the speeds by DeltaTime, but to now avail.

Description

This is a test game to practice my skills using Unreal Engine 5. I decided to switch from Unity to UE5 in protest of Unity's recent decisions with the Unity Runtime Fee. I know they already fixed it, but at this point my trust with Unity has completely been lost, and I think it'll be extremely risky if I want to make games with Unity for a living compared to other engines like Godot or Unreal.

So far, out of my 50-or so days of learning UE5, I've actually really enjoyed using it. There's a boat load of quality of life features, and it's really easy to make your games actually look good. Plus, the Blueprints system is extremely easy to learn and use. I love how integrated it is with the rest of the engine. Although, I did find UE5 to be crashing a lot, and the different systems that the engine uses (like the Game Mode/State system and the Widget/UI systems) will take a while to get used to.

But besides that, I can happily say that I'll be using Unreal Engine to make my games in the foreseeable future, at least until I can fully trust Unity as a company again (which will probably take years, if ever.)

Anyway, for the game itself, it isn't anything special. Just collect the batteries, avoid the drones, and walk through the door lol. Although, i did try to actually make this game polished and looking good. I decided to make such a simple game for several reasons. For one, because it'll be a very easy game to make as an intro into Unreal Engine, and also because it won't take me that long to make (it took over 1 month and a half ;_;)

I don't know why I put so much effort into this. -_-

Also, fun fact: This game is pretty much a 3D/HD remake of another game I recently made for my Game Design class. We used Clickteam Fusion 2.5 to make it, so I was pretty limited on what I could do for my game. Here's a side-by-side comparison for what the games looked like between the engines because why not (Left = Clickteam Fusion 2.5; Right = Unreal Engine 5):

Anyway, if you really want to download and play this complete disgrace of a game, go for it, thanks!

Also, there's several bugs with the enemies in this game that I know of that I probably won't fix later. I wanna move on to other projects.
